"Elener" Van Wie is the mother of Alida Van Wie, the true mother of John S. Pangburn. There is evidence that Isaac Van Wie, the husband of Elener (Nelly) Osterhout Van Wie, was a member of the same church in 1816, so it is reasonable to expect that they were members when John Stafford was born. Observing the signature on Isaac Van Wie's pension application, it appears probable that his literatcy extended only to signing his name, so that they did not realize that a mistake had been made in recording the birth. It appears that there may have been confusion by the minister who recorded this
birth. "Elener" Van Wie is the mother of Alida Van Wie, the true mother of
