| 182 | !DATA BASE: Sloan family records in possession of HGT. MARRIAGE: Eliza Barkley, 19 Sep 1826. CORRESPONDENCE from Dennis John Reimer gives some information on John M. Sloan. Dennis Reimer writes "His Obit states that he was in the state legislature in 1874 and died from a 4 oz. calculous concretion in his bladder, He was a Methodist." "I believe his gravestone has him as MATHEW JOHN SLOAN. I have gone through all my (records) and he is listed as John M. or J.M.. It is the only reason I would list him as Mathew. He is buried just over the Steele Co. line in Freeborn Co. and he has a Civil War Vet. marker. Neither Steele or Freeborn Co. have him as a member of their GARs but Steele Co. didn't start their record until after he died and Freeborn marked anyone who was a veteran buried in Freeborn Co.. I could get nothing about his war record from Washington D.C., but I didn't have enough info at the time. He came to Minnesota after the war to join a group from Blenheim, NY that had settled in Steele Co. in the late 1850's. He may have come before the Civil War and served from Minnesota, but the indications I have found don't point that way." NOTE: This researcher also applied to Washington for a pension record with no success. But I now know more about searching for Civil War records and I plan to continue that search. | Sloan, John M (I1759)
