- Deacon David Heywood born in Barre, Mass., May 4, 1755; m. Winchendon, May 11, 1780, by Rev. Joseph Brown, Abigail, daughter of --- Bixby and Jerusha Houghton, who was a claimant to the Houghton estate in England. She was born in Winchendon, Sept. 5, 1755, and died Feb. 23, 1813. He married (2) Catherine fitch; she was born Sept. 5, 1764, and died Aug. 25, 1861.
He lived in Holden and Winchendon, Mass. moving to Weathersfield, VT., about 1790, where he died Nov. 8, 1824. Served in the Revolutionary army, enlisting at Holden, Mass., May 9, 1777, in Capt. Harrington's co., Col. Denny's regt.; also June 7, 1778, in Capt. Christopher Marshall's co., Col. Thomas Marshall's regt.; discharged March 7, 1779; was in the Bennington campaign and the campaign against Burgoyne, and was at one time stationed West Point; one of his descendants in Springfield, Vt., has a powder horn with his name cut upon it---"David heywood, West Point." He was the last to spell the name "Heywood," his descendants about the year 1800 adopting the form "Haywood". Had 10 children.
